from Diana circa 2017:

Welcome to the Playground!

I’m Diana, a medical student at Columbia University by day and an artist by night. Although I painted, played piano, dabbled in violin, and took up many artistic endeavors as a child, the identity of “The Artist” eluded me until I took up film photography in late 2017. It started with moving into a new apartment at the beginning of medical school and wanting to fill my walls with moments of my own life to have a place that I could call my own.

As my white walls began to fill with colorful snapshots of how I see the world, my sense of home expanded beyond my 15ft x 15ft room to the places that I’ve been. Film photography was my beginner artist’s medium to develop my eye, and more deeply, my intuition.

I sense it. I like it. I focus. I snap it.

Sooner or later, I figured it’d be nice to somehow carry the photos on my wall around with me. That’s how the Playground was created. It’s a living, breathing, ever evolving space. It started with static snapshots that elevate the essence of a moment, as one holds their breath. It grew to include paintings and will, in time, grow to include other media as well.

Feel free to come and play any time! You know where to find us.

With love,

Diana
